Off to Alloway to Visit the Bard

This morning after breakfast and goodbye hugs, I headed back to the airport to collect a car.

From there, I drove down to Alloway in Ayr to the Burns Museum. Mum was a huge fan and yesterday would have been her birthday, so it seemed fitting.

The museum is quite well done, showing artefacts and more importantly, samples of his writing.

Behind the museum are the gardens, complete with a monstrous monument to the Bard.

From the Visitor's Centre and Museum, I made my way over to the Brig O' Doon

then on to the Auld Kirk where the graves of Burns' parents can be seen.

Then it was over to the cottage itself. This is quite a humble, yet typical cottage of the time. It consists of two rooms - a kitchen and the living/sleeping area.

The home also has a byre at one end where the animals would have taken shelter during the winter months.
