Help Available in the Heritage Tent at Fergus Scottish Festival

Genealogy Tours of Scotland will be in the Heritage Tent at the Fergus Scottish Festival this coming weekend. The tent will be near Clan Avenue and will have lots of people on hand to assist you with your genealogy research. 

The Wellington Branch of the OGS will be in the tent as well and will be onhand to answer questions about genealogy and will be able to help you with your research. 

Genealogy Tours of Scotland will be offering assistance specifically on the ScotlandsPeople website, so don't be shy, come along and get help to find your Scottish connections. 

The Heritage Tent opens at 9 on Saturday and Sunday. Drop by. Share the stories of your Scottish ancestors and, if interested, ask for some research help.

Heading Back to the Highlands (Games)

This Saturday, July 18th, Genealogy Tours of Scotland will be exhibiting at the Cambridge Highland Games. I will be among the clan tents.

Thank You Niagara Celtic

I was honoured once again to be asked to speak at the Niagara Celtic Festival. This festival takes place at Krull Park in beautiful Olcott, New York. The park is on the south shore of Lake Ontario and has lots of room for all of the activities, vendors, speakers and performers. This is one of the best Celtic festivals going and always very well organized.

In addition to the heavy events and clan tents, there is a Celtic College where speakers can share storytelling, teach family history or show people how to play celtic instruments. There are food vendors, performers and artisans,. There are dog shows and pony rides. There is, quite literally, something for everyone at the Niagara Celtic Festival. I am already looking forward to next year!

Heading to the Highlands - Games That Is

This weekend is the annual Highland Games and Scottish Festival in Kincardine Ontario. Kincardine has a rich Scottish heritage with many of the first settlers having emigrated from Scotland. Some with the Selkirk Settlers, who later migrated to Bruce County. Some with the Lewis Settlers, Scots emigrants from the Isle of Lewis, who migrated to Bruce County from the Eastern Townships of Quebec. The land along the shores of Huron county are rich and arable and the highland farmers adapted quickly to their new surrounds.

Every Saturday night, there is a Pipe Band Parade in Kincardine. So, if you are within driving distance, why not take a dander up and get your Scottish on. I will be offering a workshop tomorrow afternoon on Scottish Genealogy Research. And will be at a booth on Sunday. So, if you are at the Festival, make sure to come up and say "hello"
