University College, Londonhas compiled a database of British Slave Owners - people who sought financial compensation from the Crown in 1883, after the Crown outlawed slavery in the Colonies. There were about 46,000 claims made. Nearly 43,000 were from slave owners living on plantations in the Caribbean. The rest of the claims were from owners living in the UK.
